Civic Leaders in Siavonga Constituency have expressed gratitude over government’s decision to increase their monthly allowances from Three Thousand Kwacha to Six Thousand Kwacha (K6,000).
Speaking during a three-day orientation meeting for Siavonga Council management which includes Council Secretary Coster Mutandi,his deputy Patrick Tembo and Director of Works Peter Machona, Heads of department and Civic Leaders among them HRH Chief Simamba, Council Chairperson Given Kwapu among other Councilors on the functions and roles of the Council.
The Councilors have welcomed the move stating that it has been long overdue adding that the increment will motivate them and help them cushion some of the challenges faced by their community members.
Meanwhile, Southern Province Local Government Officer, Charlston Hamulyata who was the facilitator of the training emphasized the need for Councilors to show their potential and their leadership skills to drive the agender of Siavonga owing to their monthly allowance increment.
Mr Hamulyata had advised the Councilors not to demean themselves because the President, Members of Parliament, Chiefs and Councilors are all bound in one constitutional provision under Article 47 of the Constitution and that they were no longer under a subsiadiary law but now under the supreme law of the land.
The PLGO has called upon his HRH Chief Simamba to take keen interest in project activities as they are key players in decentralization adding that the zones and wards come from their Chiefdoms.
In addition, Mr Hamulyata has stated that there was need for them to identify projects that can benefit both the individual and the community.
