GOVERNMENT INTENSIFIES DIGITAL PLATFORM USAGE IN LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

Siavonga Town Council has successfully completed a comprehensive five-day training on the CDF Dashboard and websites, facilitated by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in partnership with the Smart Zambia Institute. The training, which took place from December 15-19, 2024, was part of the Ministry’s Digital Strategy – 2023 to 2026, a key initiative designed to drive the digital transition of local authorities and help achieve the Digital Agenda 2030.

The training was aimed at improving the capacity of local authorities to manage and maintain the newly developed district websites and the CDF Dashboard, which will play a pivotal role in fostering greater transparency, accountability and community engagement. In the context of decentralization, which shifts decision-making power closer to the people, the need for local authorities to be transparent and accountable is paramount in building trust with the communities they serve.

The CDF Dashboard and district/ City websites will provide citizens with real-time access to key development information, including updates on the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and local projects. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s goal of empowering local authorities to serve their communities with integrity and openness.

As part of the Ministry’s efforts to make information more accessible to the public, Siavonga Town Council staff, which included Siavonga’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Veronica Katongo , Ms. Judith Lwita – Socio-Economic Planner,  Mr. Clifford  Shanyinde- Senior accountancy assistant  and Ms. Daisy Ngoma- systems analyst  were trained on how to effectively manage these digital platforms

Siavonga Town Council believes that the knowledge gained through this training will enhance its ability to communicate effectively with the public and ensure the accurate sharing of information and ultimately strengthen the bond of trust between local authorities and the people.
