Siavonga : 11/01/2025 – Siavonga Town Council in partnership with the Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA) is currently convening at Savee Beach Resort for a focused workshop aimed at developing a comprehensive Fish Levy Regulatory Impact Assessment.
The primary objective of this workshop is to assess the potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the fish levy , ensuring that it aligns with local development objectives and supports sustainable growth within the fishing sector.
The Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA) is an important regulatory body tasked with evaluating and streamlining business regulations across various sectors to foster a conducive environment for economic development.
BRRA’s mandate includes the review and simplification of regulations to reduce unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles, promote transparent and efficient business practices and ultimately enhance the ease of doing business in Zambia. As part of this mandate, BRRA works closely with local authorities, such as Siavonga Town Council, to assess the effectiveness of existing business policies and propose necessary adjustments to drive sustainable growth while safeguarding public and economic interests.
Throughout the week, the collaborative team has been working diligently to conduct an evidence-based analysis of the fish levy, evaluating its current structure, potential adjustments, and the broader implications for the local fishing community, businesses and the environment.
The discussions have been both constructive and forward-thinking, with a focus on ensuring that the review is not only reflective of local needs but also in line with broader regulatory standards and sustainable practices.
The workshop will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including business leaders, regulatory experts and environmental specialists on Tuesday ,14th January , 2025 ; who will equally contribute their expertise to create a well-rounded impact assessment.
By working together in this way, Siavonga Town Council and BRRA aim to ensure that any changes to the fish levy will have positive, long-term effects on the local economy, the fishing industry and the community at large.
This initiative marks an important step in Siavonga’s commitment to fostering an environment that encourages business growth while protecting the region’s natural resources and supporting the livelihoods of its residents. The final impact assessment report is expected to serve as a vital tool in guiding future regulatory decisions, ensuring that they are both practical and beneficial for all stakeholders involved.
